Are your main channel videos released at varied times intentionally? Are you testing schedules or using a specific strategy?
Yes, I sometimes forget to post, so I jump in around 7:30 p.m. and realize I haven't posted a video that day, then I post it. I don't try to math out the exact timing. Instead, I take a different approach: I post videos really late at night so I don't have to worry about their performance. I just post and go to bed; by the time I wake up the video's performance is already established and there's nothing I can change. I then evaluate whether it did okay or not. That's basically my strategy.
Let it ride. Do not publish. I think he's talking about a video I published on my main YouTube channel a while ago that went super viral — we're at like 1.3 million views now — and I did indeed give it some space to grow. That's generally what you should do: give it a little bit of space to grow, not too much space. I think a lot of people take this too seriously, but on the main channel where you have a lot of growth occurring on a specific YouTube video, just give it 24 hours. Don't publish anything in the next 24 hours after that video and you'll have significantly higher odds of success, because your channel can only compete in browse to a certain extent — you can't fill every video slot with your video. Logically speaking, if you have multiple additional new videos, your subscribers will be forced to pick between one or the other, because some people will only ever watch one. So you just kind of have to give it a little bit of room to breathe.
I don't make videos all day, and it's not just me anymore – I have a bigger team now. I create daily update videos, batch them, and pay an editor to stitch them together. Some of those updates get repurposed for the second channel, which saves time. I aim to publish a new video roughly every 48 hours. The process is efficient enough that it doesn't feel overwhelming.
I get why you’d want that. It would add extra work for me and increase friction for each video—about 15 extra minutes per 30‑minute video, roughly a 50% increase in effort. My strategy is daily accountability over time, not granular timestamps, so I’m unlikely to add them unless someone else handles it.
Thank you, my okay man. Yeah, listen—at the end of the day I have to take advice from people who are more successful than I am in these fields. There’s value in hearing from those with fewer subscribers; they can point out blind spots, though I don’t see that as a blind spot myself. I feel you’re missing the point of this channel: it’s for me to wave a giant light pole around while answering questions. Maybe you’re from my main channel and thought this was a main‑channel video; I should clarify this is a daily update channel. Maybe there’s a silver lining, but yeah, your opinion is okay.
