If a client pays me to build a custom automation, do they own it outright when they stop working with me, or should the contract specify the IP terms?
I usually give clients full ownership of the systems I build and state that in the contract, but with no‑code tools the notion of IP is fuzzy—they’re essentially just chains of AWS Lambda API calls. Legally, claiming IP on such a setup isn’t rigorous, and it’s not a big downside because you’re not giving away a unique product; it’s just a series of API calls. You could even tweak a few parameters and have a different system, so giving it away isn’t costly. In my view, IP in this context won’t matter much beyond the 2020s.
