Should you use separate mailboxes for cold email instead of your main warm inbox?

Absolutely. You will engage in very irregular sending behavior, and using the same mailbox will wreck you. So definitely use separate mailboxes. I recommend buying four to five domains, then creating two to three mailboxes per domain, using variants of your business domain (e.g., goleftclick.com, getclick.com, tryleftclick.com) and variations of your name (Nick, Nick S, Nick Nikki). Rent the domains for a year and rent the mailboxes from a service. If you don’t do this, you’ll ruin your main inbox—don’t burn it down; I’ve made that mistake many times.

Can I use more than five mailboxes per domain to save on domain costs when planning 25 mailboxes? Should I use the same domain for all 25 inboxes or split them?

There are two types of diversification we’re focusing on: mailbox diversification and domain diversification. For mailbox diversification, we take our total daily sending volume and split it across all the mailboxes. For domain diversification, we split the email volume not only across mailboxes but also across the domains those mailboxes are hosted on. Google and other providers use both the sending mailbox and the domain to determine spam score, i.e., deliverability. So the usual recommendation is no longer five mailboxes per domain; I thought it was two to three for Instantly, but realistically you can do between three to five mailboxes per domain. It’s a sliding scale of performance and deliverability versus costs. Domain costs are about $10 a year (roughly 80 cents a month). If you’re trying to save costs with 25 inboxes, you might as well save elsewhere. Mindblown Countdowns also mentions this approach.

Is it realistic to get one to two customers using three email inboxes for cold email outreach?

It depends on the size of the customer, your offer, the niche, and how many emails you send per mailbox each day. Three inboxes is on the low end, likely allowing about 60 emails per day total—a volume you could manage manually if you worked full‑time. If you’re serious about cold email, you’d usually want more mailboxes; the cost difference between using a VA and paying for extra inboxes isn’t the same, so weigh your options.

How many domains are needed when using pre‑warmed mailboxes versus warming them up yourself, and what are the cost differences?

With Instantly, pre‑warmed mailboxes run about $10 each and typically require 5‑6 domains for 15‑20 mailboxes. Warming up yourself with services like Zapmail costs roughly $3‑4 per mailbox per month, takes 2‑3 weeks to warm, and yields comparable daily sending volume (≈200‑1,000 emails/day).
